Cleaning out the Links, Part VI

Its been a while since I’ve written on the blog, so lets start with an oldie but goodie segment of Pourtout Pancakes. Let’s clean out some links.

-Interesting article on Ohio State quarterback, Terrelle Pryor. I sometimes feel uncomfortable with all of the attention that young high school athletes and this story puts in an interesting light. There’s so much pressure on that guy and the perks that he’s received already has made it tough for him to stay grounded. Good read: http://men.style.com/details/features/landing?id=content_7446

-Quick post I saw on if racism is still an issue in our society. I’ve been meaning to write on this topic and since I have some free time coming up, I can look at this issue deeper. Look at this prospective for a start: http://www.citizensugar.com/1722313

-Dude, its been 10 years since we were introduced to The Dude in The Big Lebowski. Loved that movie and I learned to not fuck with the Jesus…sorry, its in the movie. This movie made me admire rugs, enjoy bowling, try White Russian drinks (which are nasty, BTW) and feel the pain of Vietnam Vets. Good times. Here’s a Rolling Stones article on the movie: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/22694342/the_decade_of_the_dude

-Looks like Phish is reuniting…good for them.

-Speaking of Rolling Stone, they had an issue dedicated to the top-100 guitar songs in history. These lists are always debatable because how do you determine this type of stuff. First, shout out to my boy Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of the Volta making the list, but I can argue that isn’t even in his top-five songs. You can’t argue #1, #2 isn’t my favorite Hendrix song (Machine Gun is better), #3 is fire, #4 is overrated, #5 isn’t Keith Richards best work (Gimme Shelter is), #6 is ok, #7 is the truth and Clapton’s solos are moving, #8 is cliché and had to be included, even though I could argue that Jimmy Page’s best work was on some other songs, #9 is ok, but let’s get to #10. In fact, let’s give it its own section. OK, first, here’s the full list of songs: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/20947527/the_100_greatest_guitar_songs_of_all_time/print

-There is no way that Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” is the #10 guitar song of all-time. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Nirvana was so, so overrated and not good. Look, I like Dave Grohl, but come on, Cobain was a bad singer and a terrible guitar player. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains blow those guys away. You want to know the reason that Nirvana gets so much love? Cobain died. If he doesn’t kill himself, people would have seen the overrated nature of their music. I will write about this separately in another post, how people get overrated when they die.

In fact, Nicole of the excellent blog REDvolutionary Warfare spoke on this: http://aredvolutionary.blogspot.com/2008/09/would-be-famous-if-were-still-alive.html

-DeSean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles recently got in some hot water for celebrating a touchdown before he entered the endzone during a game against the Dallas Cowboys. Here are seven plays even dumber than that one: http://blog.ingamenow.com/2008/09/16/7-plays-dumber-than-desean-jackson/
I remember #3 like it was yesterday and #2 is just plain sad, not for the own goal but for the old Liverpool players. Michael Owens…such a talent. Mention Owens to any old school Liverpool fan and they just get sad.

-Here are 16 Penalties Committed by College Freshman. I still do #2. Possibly NSFW: http://www.holytaco.com/2008/09/16/16-penalties-committed-by-college-freshmen-2/

-Here’s an interesting article on why guys tend to go for women out of their “league:” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26631462/?GT1=43001

-One of my favorite comics back in the day was the Dice Man. Here were some of his best dirty nursery rhymes. I love Andrew Dice Clay! Here they are and these are definitely NSFW: http://www.iheartchaos.com/2008/09/21/selected-dirty-nursery-rhymes-of-andrew-dice-clay-bad-poetry/

-Some great life lessons from Goodfellas. These are so true (possibly NSFW): http://www.screenjunkies.com/general/9-life-lessons-every-guy-can-learn-goodfellas

-If you read this blog enough, you know about my struggles with the ladies. However, what makes me even more annoyed are those ass clowns that are losers, make no money, treat women like crap yet get laid. We all know THAT guy. Anyway, here’s a list of some celebrities that look like they would be THAT guy: http://www.coedmagazine.com/entertainment/9153

Wilmer does it again, I don’t get it. Brian Austin Green was my man back in the day, so props to him. Talan has money, so that explains him. Duritz and Criss “why doesn’t my first name have the letter h in it” Angel, why? Its rumored that Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were fighting over Duritz, how the hell does that happen?

-Still with me, I hope so because here’s a link to the top-15 hottest women on TV. Jenna Fischer can definitely get it, Christina Hendricks may have to crack the bench on my top-five list, Blake Lively is a hottie, Olivia Wilde is amazing, Evangeline Lilly is sneaky hot and the #1 leaves something to be desired: http://www.spike.com/blog/top-15-hottest-women/68898

-Deadspin always has an interesting post or two. Here’s a post on women bloggers discussing the recent Idaho cheerleader controversy: http://deadspin.com/5055411/bring-it-on-deadspin-ladies-take-on-the-idaho-cheerleading-controversy

-Finally, I love touchdown celebrations in football and they don’t give you penalties for them in the Canadian Football League. Here was a recent one done. Have a good night:
